The Window Pane mirror 200 x 120cm is a steel window two metres tall: a plain grid of large panes on a hand-welded frame finished so the joints barely show, over 2.4 square metres of 4mm safety-backed glass, matt black or satin gold, 38.5kg, £399.95. It is the mirror for an entrance hall with a wall to spare, a living room that wants a second window, or a dining room, and because a 180cm mirror already shows anyone head to toe, the two metres are for the room. It needs 2.2m of clear wall, a two-person delivery and a route in you have measured.

Hanging hardware fitted; hang it from a batten, studs or masonry, or lean it with a strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, replaced free if it arrives damaged.

Description, dimensions, delivery and returns

Window Pane Full Length Mirror 200 x 120cm, available in Black, Gold. 4mm silver-backed glass with a reinforced safety backing in a powder-coated steel frame, about 38.5kg. Hang it with the fitted hardware or lean it with an anti-tip strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, delivered in two to seven working days; two-person delivery on the largest sizes.

Hanging and leaning

The hanging hardware is fitted to the back; use wall plugs and screws to suit your wall. To lean it, stand it at a slight angle and fit an anti-tip strap, especially with children or pets about. At 38.5kg this needs solid fixings into brick, block or a timber stud, not plasterboard anchors alone. Step by step: how to hang a heavy mirror and how to secure a leaning mirror.

Glass and safety

4mm backed glass with a reinforced safety backing. If the mirror is knocked hard enough to crack, the backing holds the pieces together instead of letting them fall. Glass is still glass, so it can break, but it fails safely. Why thickness matters: mirror glass thickness explained.

Two metres of window: where it goes and why the plain grid

An entrance hall with a clear wall facing the door is where a window mirror 200 x 120cm earns its price. Hung flat it throws the daylight from the door glass back through the house, the large panes read as a steel window into a brighter room, and the plain grid keeps a reflection full of coats, shoes and people in a handful of calm panels where a fine lattice would make a mosaic. The same logic puts it on a living-room wall opposite a real window, or in a dining room where candlelight in a few big panes is one of the better effects a mirror can give. The finer-grid version at this size is the Lattice Window 200 x 120cm, half a kilo heavier at the same price, for plain-walled rooms where the busier pattern has room to read; the arched versions are the Arched Window and Arched Lattice Window.

A 180cm mirror already shows anyone to about 205cm head to toe, so nobody buys a 200 x 120 mirror for height. The extra 0.5 square metres of glass over a 180 x 90cm is room, and if the room is the point, this is the design that makes two metres of it read as architecture. If the room is under 4m long or the wall has coving below 2.2m, the Window Pane 180 x 105cm at £339.95 does the job.

38.5kg, 2.4 square metres, 2.2m of wall

Float glass weighs 2.5kg per square metre per millimetre, so the glass in a 200cm mirror this wide is 24kg and the hand-welded frame, its bars and the backing are the other 14.5kg; the bars are why the window designs are the heaviest mirrors at every size. Hung with the bottom edge 20cm off the floor the top of the glass is at 220cm, so the wall needs 2.2m clear of coving, rails and fittings; leant at seven degrees the top sits at about 218cm and the base 24cm out. The carton is a little over 200 x 120cm on its long edge: measure the front door, any right-angle turn and the half landing before ordering for an upstairs room, and read the guide to moving a large mirror.

Hanging 38.5kg of grid: batten, three people, level the top bar

Above 30kg, hang from a batten on any wall: timber screwed across two studs or into brick, levelled before the glass comes near it, with the mirror's two fitted hanging points dropping onto it. Brick or block otherwise takes two nylon plugs and screws rated above 38.5kg into the brick; dot-and-dab wants the batten on long frame fixings through to the masonry; cavity anchors are never an option. A grid shows half a degree of lean in every horizontal bar and a two-metre grid shows it from the next room, so level the batten twice, hang with two people lifting from the outer frame and never the bars, a third guiding on stairs, hook both points on, and check the top bar before tightening. The hanging guide covers each wall and the full length wall mirror page the weight tables.

Leaning is for a dressing room or against a living-room wall, never a hall: felt pads under the base, about 24cm out, and an anti-tip strap or screw eye and cable at the top fitted before anyone leaves the room, because 38.5kg on a 20mm frame goes rather than wobbles if knocked. The securing guide covers the strap.

Black window pane or gold window pane at two metres

A black window pane mirror two metres tall is a steel window in the wall, and black is the finish an entrance hall wants: it reads as architecture, hides the fingerprints a hall collects, and is the version people search for by name. A gold window pane mirror in satin champagne-brass reads as a gilded screen, warming a navy or sage living room and drifting to warm silver on pure white; at this size it is a very big warm object, right for a dining room with brass and wrong for a hall that wants to look like a hall. Both are hand-welded steel in powder coat at the same £399.95. There is no two-tone at this size; the black frame with gold bars is made on the window designs at 180 x 105cm only. The black full length mirror and gold full length mirror pages make each case, and the window mirror page has all 14 window designs and sizes.

Compared with the other 200 x 120 windows and the 180s

Four window designs share this size at £399.95: this plain grid at 38.5kg, the Lattice Window at 39kg, the heaviest mirror we sell, the Arched Window at 38kg with the plain grid under a 60cm-radius arch, and the Arched Lattice Window at 38.5kg. Below two metres, the Window Pane comes at 180 x 105cm with the two-tone option and at 180 x 90cm for a hallway wall that is 90cm rather than 120cm wide. The plain-glass two-metre mirrors at the same price are the Gentle Arch, the Arched and the Frameless Rectangular, on the large mirror page.

Dispatched within one working day from UK stock and delivered in two to seven working days on a two-person service, to your door and into a ground-floor room where the route allows; free to mainland UK, offshore postcodes quoted by email. One carton: the mirror with its hanging hardware fitted and the safety backing behind the glass, no plugs, screws, batten or strap. Open it the day it arrives with the carton upright and someone steadying it, check every pane for a crack and every bar joint for movement, look at the frame corners for chips in the powder coat, and photograph anything wrong with the carton and the label within 24 hours; a replacement is dispatched free and the damaged one stays with you. Clean with a dry microfibre cloth, and for marks a damp cloth over a finger pane by pane rather than a spray across two metres of glass; the cleaning guide has the method. Change of mind is 14 days, unused and in its packaging, at your carriage cost. The delivery and returns pages have the detail, and every mirror we sell is on the full length mirrors page.

FAQ

Questions about this mirror

Why buy a 200 x 120cm window mirror when 180cm shows me head to toe?

For the room. A 180cm mirror shows anyone to about 205cm; the two metres and 120cm width reflect 2.4 square metres of hall or living room, which is what a steel window in the wall is for. If height is the reason, the Window Pane 180 x 105cm does it for £60 less.

How heavy is it, and how do I hang 38.5kg?

38.5kg, of which 24kg is the glass and 14.5kg the hand-welded frame and bars. Hang it from a batten screwed across two studs or into brick, levelled twice, with the fitted hanging points dropping onto it; two people lifting from the outer frame and a third on stairs. Cavity anchors are never an option.

Window Pane or Lattice Window at 200 x 120cm?

Window Pane, a few large panes, for an entrance hall facing coats and shoes or a room with pattern, where the reflection should stay calm. Lattice, half a kilo heavier at the same price, for plain-walled living and dining rooms where the fine grid has room to read. Same hand-welded steel.

Will it fit through my door and up the stairs?

The carton is a little over 200 x 120cm and travels on its long edge. The front door is rarely the problem; the half landing and the headroom over the stairs are. Measure them before ordering for an upstairs room, or plan a ground-floor hall or living room.

Is there a black and gold version?

Not at this size. The black frame with gold bars is made on the window designs at 180 x 105cm. At 200 x 120cm the choice is matt black or satin champagne-gold, same price.

What happens if it arrives damaged?

Photograph the damage, the carton and the label and email us within 24 hours. A replacement is dispatched free and you keep the damaged one for disposal rather than posting glass back. Check every pane and bar joint on the day it arrives.
