The Window Pane mirror 180 x 105cm is the plain grid at the width for two people: a few large panes on a hand-welded steel frame finished so the joints barely show, over 1.89 square metres of 4mm safety-backed glass, 31.2kg, £339.95, in matt black, satin gold, or a black frame with gold bars. Fewer bars than the lattice means a calmer reflection, which is what a room with pattern on the walls or a wide hallway facing coats and shoes wants. The maker specifies it for portrait hanging.

Hanging hardware fitted; hang it from two fixings into studs or masonry, or lean it with a strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, two-person delivery, replaced free if it arrives damaged.

Product information

Description, dimensions, delivery and returns

Window Pane Full Length Mirror 180 x 105cm, available in Black, Gold, Black & Gold. 4mm silver-backed glass with a reinforced safety backing in a powder-coated steel frame, about 31.2kg. Hang it with the fitted hardware or lean it with an anti-tip strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, delivered in two to seven working days; two-person delivery on the largest sizes.

Hanging and leaning

The hanging hardware is fitted to the back; use wall plugs and screws to suit your wall. To lean it, stand it at a slight angle and fit an anti-tip strap, especially with children or pets about. At 31.2kg this needs solid fixings into brick, block or a timber stud, not plasterboard anchors alone. Step by step: how to hang a heavy mirror and how to secure a leaning mirror.

Glass and safety

4mm backed glass with a reinforced safety backing. If the mirror is knocked hard enough to crack, the backing holds the pieces together instead of letting them fall. Glass is still glass, so it can break, but it fails safely. Why thickness matters: mirror glass thickness explained.

Why the plain grid at 105cm wide

Because the wider a window mirror gets, the more a fine grid turns the reflection into a mosaic, and at 105cm the plain pane grid is the version that keeps a room looking like a room. A few large panes in the proportion of a factory window break a wide reflection into a handful of calm panels; the Lattice Window 180 x 105cm, £20 less, doubles the bars and is the better buy on plain paint where the finer pattern has room to read. On patterned wallpaper, in a dining room full of pictures, or in a wide hallway facing a rack of coats, the Window Pane is the one. Its frame is the design the maker hand-welds and finishes so the bar joints barely show, which is the thing to check on any window mirror because glued joints are what lift and chip on cheaper versions.

Two people, 31.2kg, portrait only

A 180 x 105 mirror hung with its bottom edge 20cm off the floor is a 180cm mirror topping out at 200cm, which shows anyone to about 205cm head to toe and two people square to the glass; a window mirror 180 x 105cm needs a clear wall a little over a metre wide. The weight is 31.2kg, 18.9kg of which is the glass, and that is a two-person delivery, a two-person hang, and fixings into studs, a batten or masonry only. The maker specifies this size for portrait hanging, so the plain rectangle that would make sense landscape over a sofa is not an option here; the Rectangular 160 x 60cm is the one in the range made for either orientation.

Hanging 31.2kg from a batten or two studs

At this weight we would hang from a batten on any wall: a length of timber screwed across two studs or into brick, levelled before the glass comes near it, with the mirror's two fitted hanging points dropping onto it. Where the points land on two timber studs, wood screws straight into the studs work; brick or block otherwise takes two nylon plugs and screws rated above 31.2kg into the brick; dot-and-dab wants long frame fixings through to the masonry; cavity anchors are not an option. A grid shows half a degree of lean in every horizontal bar, so level both points, hang with two people lifting from the outer frame and never the bars, hook both points on, and check the top bar before tightening. The hanging guide covers each wall and the full length wall mirror page the weight tables.

Leaning is for a dressing room or dining room: felt pads under the base, about 20cm out for five to eight degrees, and an anti-tip strap or screw eye and cable at the top fitted before anyone leaves the room. Not in a hall, where a slim frame on 31.2kg of glass is a knock waiting to happen; hang it there. The securing guide covers the strap.

Black, gold or black with gold bars

A black window pane mirror is the one most people picture: the frame reads as a window and windows are not usually gold, matt black on a white or pale wall is the classic contrast, and black hides the fingerprints a frame this size collects. A gold window pane mirror in satin champagne-brass reads as a decorative screen, warming navy, sage and cream and drifting to warm silver on pure white. The two-tone, a black frame with gold bars, is new at this size: the black holds the edge on a dark wall where plain black would vanish, and the gold bars glow inside it, which makes it the dark-hallway and dining-room choice. Same hand-welded steel, same powder coat, same £339.95. The black full length mirror and gold full length mirror pages make each case, and the window mirror page has all 14 window designs and sizes.

Compared with the Lattice, the Arched Window and the other sizes

Same size and finishes, finer grid: the Lattice Window 180 x 105cm at 31.8kg and £319.95. Same plain grid under an arch: the Arched Window 180 x 105cm at 30kg and £369.95, for a landing or a bedroom. Other sizes of this design: the 180 x 90cm at 27.6kg and £299.95 for one person on a 90cm wall, and the 200 x 120cm at 38.5kg and £399.95 for a wall that wants a whole window. There is no 150 x 60cm Window Pane; the compact window mirrors are the two lattices.

Two-person delivery, cleaning, arrival and returns

Dispatched within one working day from UK stock and delivered in two to seven working days on a two-person service, to your door and into a ground-floor room where the route allows; free to mainland UK, offshore postcodes quoted by email. The carton is a little over 105cm wide and travels on its long edge, so measure the half landing and stair headroom for an upstairs room; the guide to moving a large mirror covers the carry. One carton: the mirror with its hanging hardware fitted and the safety backing behind the glass, no plugs, screws, batten or strap. Open it the day it arrives with the carton upright and someone steadying it, check every pane for a crack and every bar joint for movement, and photograph anything wrong with the carton and the label within 24 hours; a replacement is dispatched free and the damaged one stays with you. Clean with a dry microfibre cloth, and for marks a damp cloth over a finger pane by pane; on the two-tone keep the gold bars dry so the finish stays even. The cleaning guide has the method. Change of mind is 14 days, unused and in its packaging, at your carriage cost. The delivery and returns pages have the detail, and every mirror we sell is on the full length mirrors page.

FAQ

Questions about this mirror

Window Pane or Lattice Window at 180 x 105cm?

Window Pane, a few large panes, for patterned walls, a dining room full of pictures or a wide hall facing clutter, where the reflection should stay calm. Lattice, £20 less, for plain paint where the finer grid has room to read as a leaded window. Same finishes, including the two-tone.

What is the black and gold finish?

A matt black outer frame with satin champagne-gold glazing bars. It holds its edge on a dark wall where plain black vanishes, and the gold glows inside it. Made on the four window designs at 180 x 105cm only, at the same price as plain black or gold.

Can the Window Pane 180 x 105cm be hung landscape?

No. The maker specifies this size for portrait hanging. The Rectangular 160 x 60cm and the Frameless Rectangular 200 x 120cm are the mirrors in our range made to hang either way.

How do I hang 31.2kg?

From a batten screwed across two studs or into brick, levelled first, with the mirror's fitted hanging points dropping onto it; or two rated plugs and screws into brick, or wood screws into two studs where the points land on them. Cavity anchors are not an option. Two people, level both points, check the top bar.

Is it too big for a hallway?

For most halls, which lack a clear wall over a metre wide, yes; the Window Pane 180 x 90cm is the hallway size. In a wide hall or a dining room it is the plain-grid mirror that keeps a busy reflection calm.

What happens if it arrives damaged?

Photograph the damage, the carton and the label and email us within 24 hours. A replacement is dispatched free and you keep the damaged one for disposal rather than posting glass back. Check every pane and bar joint on the day it arrives.
