Product information

Description, dimensions, delivery and returns

Arched Full Length Mirror 180 x 90cm, available in Champagne. 5mm silver-backed glass with a reinforced safety backing in a powder-coated steel frame, about 20.8kg. Hang it with the fitted hardware or lean it with an anti-tip strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, delivered in two to seven working days; two-person delivery on the largest sizes.

Hanging and leaning

The hanging hardware is fitted to the back; use wall plugs and screws to suit your wall. To lean it, stand it at a slight angle and fit an anti-tip strap, especially with children or pets about. At 20.8kg this needs solid fixings into brick, block or a timber stud, not plasterboard anchors alone. Step by step: how to hang a heavy mirror and how to secure a leaning mirror.

Glass and safety

5mm backed glass with a reinforced safety backing. If the mirror is knocked hard enough to crack, the backing holds the pieces together instead of letting them fall. Glass is still glass, so it can break, but it fails safely. Why thickness matters: mirror glass thickness explained.

What champagne is, and which rooms want it

Champagne is the pale, cool cousin of gold. Where our satin gold frames are a champagne-brass that reads as gold against a coloured wall, this finish is paler and cooler still: the maker calls it a soft champagne ivory with subtle warm gold undertones and a smooth, low-sheen surface. On a white or off-white wall it reads as a warm white line rather than a metal; on grey it is a whisper of warmth; on sage, navy or a dusky pink it is the gentlest version of a gold frame you can buy. It is the finish for a room that already has mixed metals, for a bedroom in warm whites and linens, and for anyone who wanted gold and found it too loud against their walls.

It is also the only mirror here in this finish, so if the room wants the champagne Arched mirror, this is the size and the shape it comes in: a full semicircle at 180 x 90cm. The same outline in matt black or satin gold is the Arched 180 x 105cm, 15cm wider; the gentle curve at this exact size in black or gold is the Gentle Arch 180 x 90cm. The gold full length mirror page explains the gold family it sits at the pale end of.

The semicircle at 90cm wide

On a 90cm frame the full arch is a half circle of 45cm radius, so the curve begins 45cm below the top edge and the whole top of the mirror is one continuous bend. Hung with the bottom edge 20cm off the floor, that puts the start of the curve at 155cm, still above the eye line of anyone who stands in front of it, so you lose the two top corners and nothing of yourself. A 180 x 90 mirror hung this way shows anyone to about 205cm head to toe, which is every adult you will meet, and the 90cm width frames a person with an outfit held up, or two people side-on. An arch mirror 180 x 90cm with a semicircle this wide is a piece for a plain wall: a hallway facing the door, a dressing room, a living-room end wall, a bedroom over 3m long where it sits beside the wardrobe rather than facing the bed.

20.8kg: the lightest 180 we sell, and what that allows

The Gentle Arch at the same size is 29.8kg; the window mirrors at this size are 27.3 to 27.9kg. This one is 20.8kg, nine kilos lighter than its nearest relation, because the 15mm frame is as slim as the maker makes and the construction behind the glass is lighter. Our specification sheet lists the glass at 5mm, which a 1.62 square metre sheet would make 20.3kg on its own; the maker's own listing does not state a thickness, so we show the figure as listed and are checking it, and either way the glass is safety-backed float in a welded frame. Treat the 20.8kg as the number that matters: it is still above the 20kg line where our fixing rule for plasterboard becomes timber or masonry rather than cavity anchors, and it still comes on a two-person delivery because it is 180cm tall, but it is a mirror two people carry up a staircase without comment, and that is not true of the 30kg ones.

Lean or hang the champagne arch

Hang it from the two points already fitted to the back, into brick or block with two plugs and screws rated above 20.8kg, or into timber studs, or from a batten across two studs where the stud spacing does not suit; dot-and-dab wants long frame fixings through to the masonry. Measure from the hardware, which sits well below the top of the curve, set the top of the glass level with or above the tallest user's head, and offer it up with two people. The hanging guide covers each wall.

Leaning is where a pale frame earns its keep, because the tilt catches the low sheen and the champagne reads warmer than it does flat on a wall. Felt pads under the base, 20cm or so out for five to eight degrees, and an anti-tip strap or a screw eye and cable at the top fitted on the day it arrives; neither is in the box and neither carries the weight. A dressing room or a bedroom is the place to lean it. In a hall, hang it. The securing guide has the strap and the cable, and the leaner mirror page the angle and the carpet.

Who should buy the gold or black Gentle Arch instead?

Anyone who wants the frame to read as gold. Champagne is a warm white at a distance on a white wall, and if the room has brass handles or a brass pendant it will look like a near miss beside them; the satin gold Gentle Arch 180 x 90cm at the same size and price is the match for brass. Anyone who wants a black mirror, obviously, which at this size is the same Gentle Arch in matt black, or the black arch mirror page for all eight black arches. And anyone who wants the semicircle in gold or black at a comparable size, which is the Arched 180 x 105cm at 26.5kg and £309.95. The champagne is the right buy when the room is in warm whites, linens and mixed metals and you want the arch to be the quietest thing on the wall. The arch mirror page has every arch together.

FAQ

Questions about this mirror

Is champagne the same as gold?

No. Our gold frames are a satin champagne-brass that reads as gold on a coloured wall. This champagne is paler and cooler, a soft ivory with warm undertones and a low sheen, which reads as a warm white line on a white wall and the gentlest hint of gold on a coloured one. It is the only mirror we sell in this finish.

Why is the Arched 180 x 90cm so much lighter than the Gentle Arch 180 x 90cm?

20.8kg against 29.8kg. The frame is a slim 15mm section and the construction behind the glass is lighter. Our specification lists the glass at 5mm and we are confirming that with the maker; the delivered weight is the figure to plan fixings and carrying around.

Does the arch cut off the top of my head?

No. The semicircle begins 45cm below the top edge, which is 155cm up when the mirror hangs with its bottom edge 20cm off the floor and above the eye line of anyone standing in front of it. Hung, it shows anyone to about 205cm head to toe.

Can I hang it on plasterboard?

Into the timber studs or from a batten across two studs, yes; on cavity anchors alone, no, because 20.8kg is above the line where our rule for board becomes timber or masonry. Brick or block takes two rated plugs and screws into the brick.

Does it come with fixings or a strap?

The hanging hardware is fitted to the back. Wall plugs, screws, a batten or a leaning strap are not in the box because they have to suit your wall; the fixing section above says what to buy.

What happens if it arrives damaged?

Photograph the damage, the carton and the label and email us within 24 hours. A replacement is dispatched free and you keep the damaged one for disposal rather than posting glass back. If the carton is visibly crushed at the door, refuse it and tell us.
