The Wooden full length mirror 200 x 100cm is the one piece of furniture in a range of steel: a solid wood frame in walnut, natural oak, grey oak or black oak around 2 square metres of 4mm safety-backed glass, 35.4kg, £399.95. Where a steel mirror reads as a window, this reads as a wardrobe door or a tall picture, which is the point: it is for a living room or a bedroom that wants the warmth of timber on the wall and two metres of light in it.

Hanging hardware fitted; hang it from a batten, studs or masonry, or lean it with a strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, two-person delivery, replaced free if it arrives damaged.

Product information

Description, dimensions, delivery and returns

Wooden Full Length Mirror 200 x 100cm, available in Walnut, Natural Oak, Grey Oak, Black Oak. 4mm silver-backed glass with a reinforced safety backing in a solid wood frame, about 35.4kg. Hang it with the fitted hardware or lean it with an anti-tip strap. UK stock, dispatched within one working day, delivered in two to seven working days; two-person delivery on the largest sizes.

Hanging and leaning

The hanging hardware is fitted to the back; use wall plugs and screws to suit your wall. To lean it, stand it at a slight angle and fit an anti-tip strap, especially with children or pets about. At 35.4kg this needs solid fixings into brick, block or a timber stud, not plasterboard anchors alone. Step by step: how to hang a heavy mirror and how to secure a leaning mirror.

Glass and safety

4mm backed glass with a reinforced safety backing. If the mirror is knocked hard enough to crack, the backing holds the pieces together instead of letting them fall. Glass is still glass, so it can break, but it fails safely. Why thickness matters: mirror glass thickness explained.

Why wood, and which wood?

Steel frames disappear; a wooden full length mirror does not, and that is why you buy it. A solid wood frame two metres tall has grain, warmth and a presence that puts the mirror in the same family as the furniture around it rather than the windows, so it suits a living room with oak floors or a walnut sideboard, a bedroom with a timber bed, a dressing room that wants to feel like a room rather than a shop. The four finishes do four jobs. A walnut mirror is the dark, rich one, for a room with other dark timber or deep colours. An oak full length mirror in natural oak is the pale, honest one, for Scandinavian and country rooms and anywhere with oak floors. Grey oak is the washed, contemporary one the maker pitches at urban and minimalist rooms, where a natural oak would look too warm. Black oak is the one for a monochrome room that wants wood grain without wood colour, a stained timber that reads as black from across the room and as oak from close up.

Pick the finish that matches the largest piece of wood already in the room, and if there is none, the floor. Mixing two timbers in one room works when they are clearly different; walnut beside oak is a scheme, oak beside a slightly different oak is a mistake.

200 x 100cm: what it shows, and the two-metre caveat

A 200 x 100 mirror hung with the bottom edge 20cm up tops out at 220cm and shows anyone to about 225cm head to toe, which is nobody's problem; the 100cm width frames a person with the room around them or two people side-on. Like every 200cm mirror the extra height over a 180 is bought for the room, not the person, and it needs a wall 2.2m clear of coving, rails and fittings when hung, or 2.1m when leant. The glass is 2 square metres of 4mm float at 20kg, and the solid wood frame and backing bring the delivered weight to 35.4kg: a two-person delivery, two people to hang, fixings into studs, a batten or masonry, and a route in you have measured. At this width it fits a wall most living rooms have, where the 120cm-wide mirrors need a metre and a quarter.

Living with a wooden frame: radiators, sun and the odd knock

Wood moves with heat and damp in a way steel does not, so three habits. Keep the frame a hand's width from a radiator and off a wall with underfloor heating directly behind it, because a two-metre length of timber dried on one side will cup over a winter; the maker says lean or mount as you prefer, and either is fine so long as the wall is not warm. Keep it out of direct sun for hours a day, which fades a finish unevenly. And treat the frame like a table: a dry duster for dust, a barely damp cloth for marks and dried straight after, no glass cleaner on the timber, and a wax or a matching touch-up stick from any hardware shop for a knock that goes through the finish. A wooden frame hides small knocks better than powder coat does, and shows water rings worse. The cleaning guide covers the glass; spray the cloth, not the mirror, so nothing runs onto the wood.

Hanging or leaning 35.4kg of wood and glass

Above 30kg, hang from a batten: timber screwed across two studs or into brick, levelled before the mirror comes near it, with the fitted hanging points dropping onto it, which suits a wooden frame doubly because the frame and the batten then share the load along a length rather than at two screw heads. Where the points land on two timber studs, wood screws straight in work; brick or block otherwise takes two nylon plugs and screws rated above 35.4kg into the brick; dot-and-dab wants long frame fixings through to the masonry; cavity anchors are never an option. Two people lift from the frame sides, a third guides on stairs. The hanging guide covers each wall and the full length wall mirror page the weight tables.

Leaning is how a wooden mirror most often lives, against a living-room wall or beside a bed in a big bedroom: felt pads under the base, about 24cm out for seven degrees, and an anti-tip strap or screw eye and cable at the top fitted before anyone leaves the room, screwed into the back of the frame rather than the face. Never in a hall. The securing guide covers the strap and the leaner mirror page the carpet.

Compared with the steel 200s

Every other two-metre mirror here is steel at the same £399.95: the Gentle Arch and Arched at 200 x 120cm with a curve, the four window designs with a grid, and the Frameless Rectangular with no frame at all. They read as windows and architecture; this reads as furniture. It is also 20cm narrower than the others, which is the difference between needing 1.2m of wall and needing 1m, and the only one in four finishes rather than two. If the room wants a wooden full length mirror smaller than two metres, we do not make one yet; the Rectangular 160 x 60cm in steel is the plain frame at bedroom size.

Two-person delivery, arrival and returns

Dispatched within one working day from UK stock and delivered in two to seven working days on a two-person service, to your door and into a ground-floor room where the route allows; free to mainland UK, offshore postcodes quoted by email. The carton is a little over 200 x 100cm and travels on its long edge; measure the front door, any right-angle turn and the half landing first, and read the guide to moving a large mirror. One carton: the mirror with its hanging hardware fitted and the safety backing behind the glass, no plugs, screws, batten or strap. Open it the day it arrives with the carton upright and someone steadying it, check the glass edge to edge and the four corners of the frame, where a wooden frame takes a knock, and photograph anything cracked, chipped or marked with the carton and the label within 24 hours; a replacement is dispatched free and the damaged one stays with you. Change of mind is 14 days, unused and in its packaging, at your carriage cost. The delivery and returns pages have the detail, and every mirror we sell is on the full length mirrors page.

FAQ

Questions about this mirror

Which wood should I choose?

Match the largest piece of timber already in the room, or the floor if there is none. Walnut for dark timber and deep colours, natural oak for pale and country rooms and oak floors, grey oak for washed, contemporary rooms, black oak for a monochrome room that wants grain without colour.

Can a wooden mirror go near a radiator?

Keep it a hand's width away and off a wall with underfloor heating directly behind it. Two metres of solid timber dried on one side will cup over a winter. Steel does not care; wood does.

How heavy is it, and how do I hang it?

35.4kg, of which about 20kg is the 4mm glass. Hang it from a batten screwed across two studs or into brick, levelled first, with the fitted hanging points dropping onto it; two people lifting from the frame sides. Cavity anchors are never an option at this weight.

Can it lean?

Yes, and leaning is how a wooden mirror most often lives, against a living-room wall or in a big bedroom: felt pads under the base, about 24cm out, and an anti-tip strap or screw eye and cable fitted into the back of the frame before anyone leaves the room. Never in a hall.

Do you make a smaller wooden mirror?

Not yet. This 200 x 100cm is the only wooden full length mirror in the range. For a plain frame at bedroom size the Rectangular 160 x 60cm is steel in black or gold; a wooden size below two metres will be listed here when one passes our glass checks.

What happens if it arrives damaged?

Photograph the damage, the carton and the label and email us within 24 hours. A replacement is dispatched free and you keep the damaged one for disposal rather than posting glass back. Check the four corners of the frame first; that is where a wooden frame takes a knock.
